Who: Lorna B.
What: Wardrobe Consultation
One of my favourite Personal Styling services is the Wardrobe Consultation. I love seeing people experience such excitement at the end, unable to contain their surprise when they discover - with expert planning (and a few clever styling techniques) - it’s just like getting a new wardrobe. Without the price tag.
On 23rd January 2015, I travelled to Luton to meet Lorna B. On the way to her house Lorna told me she was making many positive changes in her life, including diet and exercise, hair and beauty therapies. This was to prepare for an exciting promotion at work, and she wanted her new image to better reflect her position in life.
It was hard not to let Lorna’s positivity and enthusiasm for life rub off a little! I felt like I was sharing a special moment, as she was about to enter an exciting new phase in her life. I wanted to do my best to help her, as I knew her winning attitude would bring much success.
It seemed that on a career and personal front things were going extremely well, and Lorna told me that she wanted her styling to reflect how good she felt, as her current style was letting her down. I asked Lorna what she wanted to achieve from the session. She told me she was a ‘bit of a tomboy’ and wanted a more feminine look for the office, which also had to be smart and comfortable.
Like most of us, Lorna’s busy lifestyle left little time to think about wardrobe planning. In her spare moments she’d shop online. When I saw Lorna’s wardrobe I noticed she had many clothes which were excellent for her body shape. Where Lorna really needed help was in putting outfits together, mixing better combinations of what she already owned. So for our three-hour session it was decided I’d set about to create a new workwear capsule to carry her through the week, and an evening look for her upcoming work event.
During the session I taught Lorna a few styling techniques to flatter and enhance her body shape, to look more feminine but formal enough for the workplace. I sorted through her wardrobe, even her storage room retrieving items from zip lock bags she forgot existed - ignoring warnings that ‘there’s nothing there’! We worked really hard (a couple of coffee breaks served us well), all the while having fun of course, and I completely enjoyed the company of Lorna’s down to earth bubbly personality. After Lorna’s patience in trying on several new looks our efforts were rewarded. Just enough time was left for me to re-organise her wardrobe, hanging her six new outfits in order for easy access - saving Lorna time in the morning. Lorna also made a list of additional garments I suggested which could be purchased in order to create additional looks to maximise her wardrobe.
Lorna actually said she felt my services paid for themselves, as she no longer felt she needed to buy nearly as many new clothes as she thought. I never tire from hearing this, a huge compliment which makes my job worthwhile.
Lorna’s ambition is an inspiration, and I am proud to have been part of her journey as she moves towards more success and happiness (all the way in style of course!).

Sporty- comfortable and confident, showing your strengths as well as keeping it feminine, you wouldn’t mind wearing your gym clothes to pop to the supermarket, just make sure its suitable for the outdoors.
1. Set your goals
In order to get what you want you have to set a path of what you want and what it will take to get there. Ask yourself what you want; what will it take to get there, how much weight you want to lose.
2. Take measurements /photos of every step of the way
You need to know how much you weigh in order for you to get to where you want. So take honest measurements to have an honest outcome.
Buy the bikini you’ve always wanted to wear and hang it up where you’ll see it every day, by doing this it’s encouraging you to be more likely to stick to your plans rather than change direction.
Start looking at what you eat and watch those calories, also take in enough protein and drink plenty of water as it’s important to keep yourself hydrated.
Plan a routine of workouts for 30 minutes or more daily, do at least 5-7 workouts a week, make sure you have a day to rest.
6. Date it
Set a period of time that you plan to lose the weight within and stick to that date, when you mark down days left this strategy will keep you motivated
7. Staying on track, keeping healthy
Always eat breakfast, lunch and dinner. Skipping meals and starving yourself is an unhealthy way of dieting and could cause problems with your body internally.
8. Finally have fun
Enjoying your workout is a better way to lose weight faster. Find a gym partner or friend that will be able to work out with you. This will keep you motivated and also it’s a great way to challenge each other.
Dress code is important when working in an office setting as it determines how colleagues perceive you in a professional environment. Establishing what to wear for work can feel tiresome. However if you follow these 10 steps it will be a breeze.
1. Be Prepared
Preparing your ensemble the evening before work is great as it will remove the morning stress of putting an outfit together, as well as giving you added time to get to work.
2. Invest in an iron
Make sure you look appropriate and smart for the work environment, as this will represent you and your attitude in life and in work.
Showing up to work with a creased shirt may send the message you do not care about getting that promotion. If bosses feel this way they may not offer you a raise. It is crucial to ensure that your clothes are ironed for all occasions and not only to attend job interviews.
3. Dress like your boss
“Dress for the job you want, not the job you have” in order to be taken seriously, dress similarly to those who run the company. If your boss likes to dress in blazers for instance it would be a good idea to do the same.
4. Dont forget to polish
Ensure that your shoes are always clean and kept. As an adult there are no excuses for turning up to work in dirty old shoes. Also Gents - you must make sure that you wear matching socks with your shoes in order to be colour coordinated.
5. Overdressed is better than underdressed
Do not dress for a club night out. Instead, prepare your ensembles as if you had important meetings to attend. This would guarantee that you are appropriately dressed for any occasion, for example if you had an important client meeting to attend a last minute. As Rachel Zoe a famous stylist would say “What’s the worst that can happen? You’re the best dressed at the party?”
6. Quality over quantity
Ensure that you purchase clothes of a good quality. Not only will they last longer but they will look the part aswell and you will not have any mishaps such as the tearing of a trouser pocket or the button of a shirt. If it is required for you to wear a suit, stick to neutral colours such as navy and black that adhere to your body shape to ensure you look professional.
7. Less does not equal more
Do not wear anything to the office that is too short, too tight, see through or revealing to ensure that you are consistently seen in a professional light. This also includes a builder’s bum and black bras under white shirts. If you abide by these guidelines, you will also be respected as a professional business person.
8. Comfort = confidence
If you know you will be running around and doing something physically strenuous, make sure that your outfit suits your daily physical activities. Wear heels when you will be in the office and not running around; wear your favourite top when there is a stressful day ahead to cheer you up. Dressing comfortably will help you relax and concentrate on your job as opposed to worrying about what you are wearing.
9. Dare to be different
Wearing the same old plain black and white clothes can be boring, but in today’s office environment it is more than acceptable to experiment with a little burst of colour and accessories. Be different and take that step to looking extra special and unique on an otherwise average day at the office.
10. Be yourself
Be individual. Do not be afraid to add your personal style to a work outfit. Although there is a smart dress code for the office environment, there is no reason to be in the shadows. Dress to impress as well as for success.
